Welcome to Jason Strohm's Type Font Basics Tutorial. you will be covering the three main type font styles: Serif, San Serif, and Script. Part 1 of this tutorial gives a brief description of each main type font styles. Part 2 covers the history of each main style to give you a better understanding of each. Part 3 explains the current meaning and proper usage of each main type font style. Part 4 discusses readability concerns. It covers traditional print materials and the new issues with digital medias. ![]() Serif Type Fonts were famous during the Greek and Roman ages and have carried this fame and status level through the ages. The majority of high-end professions use this font exclusively (doctors, lawyers, accountants). ![]() San Serif Type Fonts are the bread and butter of almost every media business in America today (MSN, ESPN, FOX). They are usually used with a Serif font but have been rising in popularity with today's advancing technologies and this issues with anti-aliasing. ![]() Script Type Fonts have taken a more personal route and own the "hand-written" markets as well as "personal touch" markets (hair stylists, churches, and greeting cards).
