Welcome to Jason Strohm's Type Font Basics Tutorial. you will be covering the three main type font styles: Serif, San Serif, and Script. Part 1 of this tutorial gives a brief description of each main type font styles. Part 2 covers the history of each main style to give you a better understanding of each. Part 3 explains the current meaning and proper usage of each main type font style. Part 4 discusses readability concerns. It covers traditional print materials and the new issues with digital medias. ![]() Serif Type Fonts can be defined by having short cross lines (or feet) at the ends of the letters. ![]() San Serif Type Fonts can be defined by having no serifs or connecting letters. ![]() Script Type Fonts can be defined by having connecting letters or appears to be hand-written with ink or paint.
